When you receive a cancer diagnosis, one of the most common recommendations is to get a second opinion. Since a cancer diagnosis is a major decision point, you will want to understand your options before committing to a treatment plan.
There is an important distinction that is often overlooked though: not every second opinion is truly a second opinion.
If you visit another physician and receive essentially the same type of treatment recommendations, you have received another medical opinion, but you have not been given a different approach. Your scans may have been reviewed by another specialist, your pathology may have been interpreted by another physician, and you may have received confirmation of the same diagnosis and type of treatment plan.
But what happens when you want to ask different questions like: What other options do I have? How did the cancer develop into a tumor in the first place? What is the environment that caused the cancer to develop? Is there anything I can do to affect the cancer myself? Do I need to change my diet, or exercise more? What about sugar, is it ok to eat cake and ice cream? Are there toxins that I have been exposed to that have compromised my immune system? Is my gut microbiome part of the cause?
That is where a True Second Opinion becomes something very different.
At An Oasis of Healing, we believe a second opinion should give people diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to step outside the conventional treatment pathway and look at the entire picture. We provide a comprehensive assessment of the individual—an evaluation of the entire situation, not simply another evaluation of the same diagnosis.

A Different Question Leads to a Different Approach
The conventional cancer model is fully organized around the diagnosis. Once the type and stage of cancer are established, the next question is what treatment will be used first: surgery, chemotherapy or radiation?
At An Oasis of Healing, we start by asking a broader question: What is happening in this person's body that fundamentally caused the CFCs to begin to grow unabated?
At An Oasis of Healing, we use the term CFCs—Chronically Fermenting Cells—to describe what is commonly referred to as cancer. The terminology reflects the focus on the cellular and metabolic characteristics associated with these cells. It also helps frame the question differently: rather than looking only at a tumor as something that needs to be removed or destroyed, we examine the biological environment in which the CFC cells develop and function.
That question does not replace the need to address or target the tumor. It expands the review and discussion.
A tumor is not an isolated event occurring independently of the rest of the body. Cells exist within a biological environment, and that environment influences cellular behavior. Metabolism, nutrient availability, oxygenation, inflammation, immune function, hormones, circulation, detoxification, sleep, stress, and environmental exposures all play a role in the condition of the body.
Therefore, looking only at the tumor provides an incomplete picture of the situation.
This is one of the foundational principles behind the approach at An Oasis of Healing. We do not look at a person and see only a diagnosis. We look at the person as a whole being and evaluate the many factors that influence their health.
That distinction is critical.
A tumor may be the most obvious manifestation of an issue, but it is not necessarily the entire issue. Removing or destroying what can be seen, i.e. the tumor, does not automatically address what was happening on the biological level before the tumor appeared.
This is why the healing philosophy at An Oasis of Healing includes the concept of "Stop Making Cancer." The objective is not simply to target what already exists. It is also to change the conditions that supported CFCs development and progression.
That requires a much more comprehensive approach.
True Integrative Care Is More Than Adding Alternative Therapies
The word integrative has become increasingly common in healthcare, but the way the term is used varies considerably.
Simply adding a few supplements, acupuncture sessions, nutritional recommendations, or other complementary services to a conventional treatment plan does not constitute true integrative medicine.
At An Oasis of Healing, integrative care means bringing multiple aspects of care together as part of one individualized strategy.
Our program incorporates medical and metabolic therapies alongside nutrition, immune support with detoxification and cleansing therapies, mind/body practices, movement and lifestyle modification education. These components are not treated as unrelated services that happen to be available under the same roof. They are considered together because as human beings we do not function in isolated compartments.
For example, nutrition affects metabolism. Metabolism affects cellular function. Immune function is influenced by nutrition, toxins, sleep, stress, and other physiological factors. The body's ability to eliminate waste and process environmental exposures matters to the immune system and overall health. Physical activity and circulation affect physiology. Sleep affects hormonal and immune regulation. These systems continuously interact.
A truly integrative approach recognizes these relationships.
This is why an An Oasis of Healing Cancer Care Program can include therapies such as Insulin Potentiation Therapy, intravenous High Dose Vitamin C, IV curcumin, IV quercetin, Oxidative therapies, hyperthermia, and other individualized treatments while simultaneously addressing nutrition, lifestyle, detoxification, immune function, and lifestyle education.
The objective is not to accumulate as many therapies as possible.
The objective is to determine what every individual needs and bring those components together into a coherent treatment strategy.
The Individual Matters
One of the biggest problems with a one-size-fits-all approaches to cancer care is that two people can have the same diagnosis and have very different history, needs and responses to treatments and therapies.
They may have different medical histories, different nutritional status, different metabolic health, different levels of immune function, different previous treatments, different environmental exposures, different lifestyles, and different levels of overall health.
So why would their treatment necessarily be the same?
At An Oasis of Healing, the individual is central to the process. A patient's care plan is developed around their specific circumstances rather than simply assigning everyone with the same diagnosis the same protocol.
This means considering factors such as:
- The type, location, and progression of the CFCs
- Previous treatments and how the body responded to them
- Overall metabolic and nutritional status
- Immune-system function
- Lifestyle and dietary patterns
- Environmental and toxic exposures
- Sleep and stress
- Other health considerations
- The patient's goals, needs, and ability to implement changes after the program
This is what personalized care should look like in practice. It is not simply changing the name of a protocol. It means understanding the patient well enough to determine which combination of interventions is appropriate.
The Four Pillars of An Oasis of Healing
The An Oasis of Healing program is organized around four fundamental principles: Stop Making Cancer; Target & Eliminate Without Harm; Enhance the Immune System; and Bridge From Fear to Faith Through Knowledge.
These pillars work together rather than functioning as four separate concepts.

Stop Making Cancer
At An Oasis of Healing, "Stop Making Cancer" means looking beyond the presence of CFCs to the conditions that allowed them to develop and continue progressing in the first place. Rather than treating the tumor as an isolated problem, the medical team evaluates the biological environment in which those cells exist, including cellular metabolism, nutritional status, inflammation, immune function, oxygenation, circulation, hormonal signaling, detoxification capacity, and other factors that influence cellular behavior.
This begins with understanding the individual patient. Two people can have the same cancer diagnosis, even the same type and stage, while having very different metabolic health, nutritional deficiencies, inflammatory patterns, immune function, medication histories, environmental exposures, stress levels, sleep patterns, and lifestyle factors. Those differences matter when determining what the body needs and how an individualized healing strategy should be structured.
The objective is therefore not simply to identify where the CFCs are located. It is to identify the conditions contributing to their development and persistence and address those conditions as part of the overall plan. This is where nutrition, metabolic support, detoxification, immune support, our enhancement therapies, and lifestyle modification become relevant components of cancer care rather than afterthoughts.
Target & Eliminate Without Harm
Addressing the environment in which CFCs develop does not mean ignoring the CFCs themselves. They still need to be addressed directly. The second pillar focuses on targeting and eliminating malignant cells while being intentional about protecting the patient's healthy cells and overall physiological reserve.
At An Oasis of Healing, treatment selection is individualized according to the patient's condition, nutritional status, metabolic state, and treatment history. Depending on the patient, the program may incorporate treatments such as Insulin Potentiation Therapy, intravenous High Dose Vitamin C, intravenous curcumin, quercetin, hyperthermia, oxidative therapies, and other metabolic or integrative approaches. These treatments are not presented as a universal protocol. They are selected and combined according to the patient's specific needs and the role each treatment serves within the larger healing strategy.
This distinction is important. A healing plan should not be reduced to a list of treatments. The question is how the treatment and therapies work together, when they should be used, what the patient needs before and after treatment, and how the patient's nutritional, metabolic, immune, and detoxification systems are supported throughout the process. Targeting CFCs is one part of the strategy; maintaining the patient's ability to recover and function optimally is another.
Enhance the Immune System
The immune system is an essential part of the body's ability to recognize and respond to abnormal cells. Supporting immune function therefore cannot be separated from the rest of the healing strategy.
At An Oasis of Healing, immune support is approached as more than simply adding an immune-supportive supplement or therapy. The patient's nutritional status, gut health, inflammatory burden, sleep, stress, physical activity, metabolic health, and exposure to substances that may place additional demands on the immune system can all influence physiological function. These factors are evaluated alongside the patient's diagnosis and treatment history rather than being treated as unrelated concerns.
This is also why nutrition and education are integral to the program. The body requires adequate nutrients and appropriate physiological conditions to carry out the functions expected of it. Patients learn how food choices, food preparation, fasting, hydration, elimination, sleep, breathing, movement, and other daily practices can become part of supporting their overall health and immune function.
Immune support also has to be considered in the context of the entire healing plan. The purpose is not to pursue one isolated method of "boosting" immunity, but to identify what may be impairing normal physiological function and address those factors while incorporating appropriate immune-supportive therapies when indicated.
Bridge From Fear to Faith Through Knowledge
A cancer diagnosis can leave patients overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. That makes education an essential part of care.
At An Oasis of Healing, education is used to replace that uncertainty with understanding and knowing. "Faith" in this context is not a substitute for medical knowledge or evidence. It refers to moving from fear and helplessness toward a sense of empowerment through a deeper understanding of what is happening in the body and what the patient can do themselves to transform their health.
It is important that patients have an understanding of what happens physiologically within the body, how remarkable the body is for its capacity to heal and most importantly, how their psychological state impacts their body and its capacity to heal.
That education extends far beyond explaining a treatment schedule. Through the An Oasis of Healing School of Life, patients receive practical instruction that they can practice during their time at An Oasis of Healing and continue after they return home. They learn about nutrition and food preparation, juicing, fasting, fermentation, sprouting, movement, breathing, sleep, stress management, elimination, environmental exposures, and other factors that can change their current state of health.
The purpose is to provide patients with skills they can continue incorporating in their lives after returning home to continue their healing process. Instead of leaving them dependent on a care program that ends when they leave the facility.
This pillar changes the patient's role in the process. Instead of simply arriving for treatments and waiting for the next appointment, patients are taught to understand the relationship between their daily choices, their physiology, their psychology and their overall health. They leave with a greater understanding of what they can control and a practical framework for continuing those changes at home.
Together, these four pillars form a single healing philosophy. Stop Making Cancer addresses the biological conditions associated with the development and persistence of CFCs. Target & Eliminate Without Harm addresses the CFCs directly while considering the impact of the health of the patient as a whole. Enhance the Immune System supports the body's critical systems for maintaining physiological function and eliminating abnormal cells. Bridge From Fear to Faith Through Knowledge gives patients the knowledge and understanding of the body's miraculous capacity to heal and the practical skills necessary to support this healing and ways to participate in their own care.
The pillars are therefore not four versions of the same idea. They represent four different parts of the same strategy: understand the biology, address the CFCs, support the body's systems, and give the patient the knowledge to continue that work beyond the healing program.
The An Oasis of Healing School of Life: Learning How to Live Differently
This is one of the most significant differences between An Oasis of Healing and many other cancer programs.
We do not believe that the patient's role is simply to show up for treatment, receive therapy, and then return home to the same habits and environment that existed before the diagnosis.
If the goal is long-term health, then patients need to understand how their daily choices affect their biology.
That is why the An Oasis of Healing School of Life is such an important part of the program.
The Oasis School of Life provides patients with practical education in areas such as nutrition, food preparation, juicing, fasting, fermentation, sprouting, movement, breathing, sleep, stress management, environmental exposures, and other aspects of maintaining health.
This is not simply a lecture about what patients "should" do.
Patients learn how to put these principles into practice.
There is a major difference between being told that nutrition matters and learning how to prepare the foods that will become part of your daily life. There is a difference between hearing that lifestyle matters and actually understanding which habits need to change and why. There is a difference between receiving information and acquiring the skills necessary to use that information consistently.
That is the purpose of the Oasis School of Life.
We are not simply treating patients and sending them home. We are teaching them how to take responsibility for the factors they can control that will impact their health and healing.
Your Care Should Continue After You Leave An Oasis of Healing
A treatment program has to account for what happens after the patient goes home.
Cancer develops over time. The biological environment in which it develops is shaped by years of nutrition, lifestyle, environmental exposure, metabolism, stress, and other factors. Therefore, long-term health requires more than a short period of intensive treatment.
The time spent at An Oasis of Healing is an opportunity to intervene, learn, and establish new patterns. What happens afterward is equally important.
Patients return home with the knowledge and skills to continue making changes in their daily lives.
That can include maintaining a nutrient-dense diet, reducing unnecessary environmental exposures, supporting healthy sleep, incorporating appropriate physical activity, managing stress, continuing recommended therapies, and maintaining the habits learned through the Oasis School of Life.
The point is not perfection.
The point is understanding that health is influenced by what you do every day.
If a person returns to exactly the same lifestyle and environment after treatment, they have not addressed the causes that brought about the CFCs.
This is why lifestyle modification is not an optional "wellness add-on" at An Oasis of Healing. It is part of the larger strategy.
We Are Looking Beyond the CFCs
A true second opinion should expand the conversation beyond just the diagnosis.
It should not simply answer, "What treatment should I receive for this tumor?"
It should also ask:
- Why did these CFCs develop?
- What conditions exist within the body that may be supporting their progression?
- What can be changed?
- What is the condition of the patient's immune and metabolic systems?
- How is the patient nourishing the body?
- What environmental factors need to be addressed?
- What lifestyle changes are necessary?
- What can the patient learn to continue doing after treatment?
These questions do not make the diagnosis less serious.
They take the diagnosis seriously enough to examine the entire picture.
At An Oasis of Healing, our philosophy is that eliminating the CFCs is only one part of the work. Restoring and maintaining health requires addressing the person as a whole.
That is what makes our approach different.
A True Second Opinion Should Change the Conversation
When you seek a second opinion, you should not be afraid to ask whether you are actually being offered a different perspective.
Are you simply getting confirmation of the same recommendation?
Or are you being given the opportunity to examine your health from another angle?
At An Oasis of Healing, a True Second Opinion means taking the time to evaluate the individual, understand the biology, examine the factors that may have contributed to the cancer, and develop an individualized strategy that addresses more than the tumor alone.
It means combining targeted therapies with immune support, nutrition, metabolic care, detoxification, education, and lifestyle modification.
It means teaching patients what they can do for themselves rather than making them passive participants in their own care.
And it means recognizing that the work does not stop when the visible cancer is gone.
The goal is not simply to address what is happening today. The goal is to change the conditions that support health for the years ahead.
No responsible medical professional can guarantee that cancer will never return. What we can do is address the factors within our control and give patients the knowledge, tools, and individualized care necessary to support long-term health.
That is the difference between another opinion and a True Second Opinion.
At An Oasis of Healing, we are not interested in simply telling you what another doctor has already told you.
We are interested in looking at the whole picture.
Your CFCs matter.
Your biology matters.
Your environment matters.
Your nutrition matters.
Your immune system matters.
Your lifestyle matters.
And what you do after treatment matters.
If you have received a cancer diagnosis and want to understand whether there is another way to approach your care, consider getting a True Second Opinion at An Oasis of Healing.
